Mid City Artists Open Studios

The Mid City Artists Spring Open Studios is going on this weekend May 16 and 17! I’ll be open on Sunday only from 12-5. Drop by and see a new series of photographs I’m currently working on. A map of artists studios can be downloaded from the MCA website. Many artist studios within walking distance of the Dupont/Logan Circles will be open for visitors with over 20 artists exhibiting. This is a unique opportunity to see some of DC’s most exciting artists in their ‘home environments.’ Check out the burgeoning local art scene that is finding its focus in the […]

Award for Erythrina

I recently attended a reception to honor the Enclave Arts Competition winners at the Enclave apartment complex in Silver Spring. I received the Distinguished Artist prize for my photographic print titled Erythrina. It was exciting to receive an award after seeing the high quality of the artwork selected, including some excellent student works. A student from Hyattsville, MD, won the $20,000 arts scholarship prize to go towards his education. There was some discussion on ArtDC about this contest regarding the terms of the agreement that artists signed to enter, which appeared to require artists to give up rights to […]

Art for a Cause

Donating artwork to a fundraising auction can help artists to increase exposure for their work while also benefiting a good cause. This fall I am donating framed prints to two events that raise money for important causes while also focusing on art — both events are coming up soon and tickets are still available. Art for Life, now in its 15th year and a highlight on the art calendar, supports the Whitman Walker Clinic’s HIV/AIDS prevention services for communities of color. The event includes a beautiful color catalog, a gallery-style exhibition, and the excitement of a live auction (as an […]

The Show is Open

40X26.667 opened last friday with a wine and champagne reception at Caramel boutique. The space was hopping throughout the evening, thanks to the many art lovers, friends, and neighbors who dropped by. The groovy soundtrack was provided by Steve and chocolates by Biagio. Nevin Kelly and Laura Kuah blogged about it and Brightest Young Things posted some photos. If you missed the fun or want to take a second look, the show will remain up at Caramel through February 29.
