Indiegogo campaign is live!

Participate in the creation of my forthcoming photobook ‘Once Upon a Time in Almeria: The Legacy of Hollywood in Spain.’ With your help the book will be published in Fall 2017 by Daylight Books!

Visit my Indiegogo project page to see an introductory video and get more information about how you can help.

Please consider purchasing an advance signed copy of the book — currently available only through the crowdfunding site. Prints from from the series are also available.

The reality of photobook publishing these days is that photographers are expected to raise some portion of the funds for book production. This is the standard model, even with major photobook publishers, because of the high cost that goes into design and production of a high quality photobook. Daylight is a successful publisher with an outstanding design team. The funds I am raising through the Indiegogo campaign will go towards covering my portion of the production costs.

Thank you for being a part of making this project a success and please share with others!

Fifty years ago the province Almería, a remote corner of Spain, was on the verge of becoming the next Hollywood.

‘Once Upon a Time in Almería’ depicts the legacy of the self-proclaimed “The Movie Capital of the World.” International stars—Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Peter O’Toole, Clint Eastwood, and many others—passed through the barren landscape. The photographs take the stance that the aura of Hollywood glamour was mostly fiction.

Mark Parascandola is a fine art photographer based in Washington DC and Almeria, Spain. A PhD epidemiologist by training, he uses photography to explore the interactions between human populations and the environment over time. He was awarded an Individual Artist Fellowship from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities 2014, Finalist for the Sondheim Prize 2011, and Finalist for Critical Mass 2015. Mark’s first photo book Carabanchel was released in 2014. Website: www,parascandola.com
